Scopic drive it is!

Sofia also wanted to share a few links with you. She thought David Cronenberg’s films were very relevant to the psychopathologies we were talking about (and she is right, of course, read Crash as a story of fetishism!). She thinks Madame Butterfly and Spider are must see, given their content. I haven’t seen M. Butterfly but Slavoj Zizek and Sofia’s mention are enough encouragement to watch it soon. You’ll find Zizek’s text in The metastases of enjoyment: six essays on women and causality, worth reading for many reasons, including a majestic exegesis of David Lynch’s Blue Velvet. Isn’t the whole film about the scopic drive?

She also recommended the work of a photographer called Luis Gonzalez Palma, as it touches on issues around intimacy and desire. I would also add on the scopic drive, which seems to be the theme of this post!

Luis Gonzalez Palma. Cuerpos Intangibles

One last photographer and documentary film (also from Sofia), to keep you busy over the holidays: Carina Linge and Titicut follies, by Frederick Wiseman.

See you Friday!
